Marin Alsop to Conduct BSO in Mahler's TITAN, 4/24 & 27

Music Director Marin Alsop will lead the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in Mahler's Symphony No. 1, "Titan" and Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini on Thursday, April 24 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 27 at 3 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Sendai International Music Competition and 2012 William Kapell International Piano Competition winner Yekwon Sunwoo joins the BSO to perform Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. "Titan" is also the subject of Maestra Alsop's final Off the Cuff concert of the 2013-2014 season, Friday, April 25 at 8:15 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore and Saturday, April 26 at 7 p.m. at the Meyerhoff.

As winner of the 2013 Sendai International Music Competition and 2012 William Kapell International Piano Competition, Yekwon Sunwoo has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Orchestre National de Belgique with Marin Alsop, the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie with Paul Goodwin, Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra with Christopher Wilkins, l'Orchestre Philharmonique du Maroc, Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra and the Daegu City Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Sunwoo made his New York City debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in 2009 as winner of the Florida International Piano Competition. Other awards include First Prize in the 2012 Piano Campus International Concours, a laureate in the 2010 Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, First Prize in the 2009 Concours International de Piano "Interlaken Classics," First Prize in the Daegu Broadcasting Competition, First Prize in the Ewha-Kyung Hyang Competition and Grand Prize in the Kukmin-Ilbo/Hansei University Competition.

Mr. Sunwoo's chamber music experience includes an invitation from the Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation in 2007, touring Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Panama. He has collaborated with Ida Kavafian and Peter Wiley in 2010 with Curtis on Tour and with Roberto Díaz on the Bay Chamber Concerts summer series in 2008. He has also performed with, Gary Hoffman, Anne-Marie McDermott and Michael Tree.

Mr. Sunwoo has studied with Min-ja Shin and Sun-wha Kim in Korea, with Seymour Lipkin at Curtis Institute of Music and Robert McDonald at The Juilliard School. He is currently studying with Richard Goode at the Mannes School of Music.
