"It is such a pleasure to support the Montreal Children's Library in this way" says Lyric President Louise Dorais. "The employees, volunteers and the Board at MCL are tremendously hard working. Their dedication to the children and their families in our community is so important; they truly deserve our encouragement, especially at this time of year."

"Without the generosity and support of community?minded entrepreneurs like Ezio Carosielli (of the Rialto Theatre) and community organizations like the sensational Lyric Theatre Singers, the Montreal Children's Library would find it difficult to continue providing Montreal's inner? city children with the stellar library services and programs that they have offered free?of? charge for 84 years now," offers Amanda Fritz, President of the Library's Board of Directors. "Our sincere thanks to both these groups and to everyone who attends this wonderful holiday concert in support of literacy, learning and imagination for all Montreal's children."

The Lyric Theatre is a long-standing producer and promoter of Musical Theatre in the Montreal area. What began in 1965 with a vision of a community based group presenting an annual stage production on the West Island has, thanks to the creation of The Lyric Theatre Singers in 1990, grown into a company of performers from all areas of the city, rehearsing and performing Broadway and Christmas material 10 months out of every year.

Since 1929, The Montreal Children's Library has provided free resources for children in areas of Montreal where no municipal library exists. Today three branches provide free library services and activities in Ville?Marie, Little Burgundy, and Ville St. Michel. MCL also offers outreach programs to hospitalized and handicapped children in several facilities across the city. The Library's Mother Goose Rhyme Time program, which is offered in local community centres, encourages infants, toddlers and their caregivers to enjoy rhymes and songs together and facilitates language acquisition, parent child attachment and positive parenting skills in a supportive learning environment. Through these varied programs and services, the Montreal Children's Library connects young people to books and literacy and all that they represent: empowerment, education, entertainment, and sometimes, refuge. Positive adventures at the MCL benefit them for the rest of their lives. www.mcl-bjm.ca
