Israel's foremost chamber orchestra, the Israel Camerata Jerusalem Orchestra, makes its Sydney premiere performing two magnificent programs at City Recital Hall: Beyond All This on 18 September; and Remembrance on 20 September. The Sydney concerts are one of two stops on the orchestra's first tour of Australia and feature internationally renowned cello soloist Zvi Plesser.

Celebrated for its "effortless virtuosity, tight instrumental balances and a broad dynamic palette" (LA Times), the Israel Camerata Jerusalem Orchestra has been hugely successful in bringing together established and emerging musicians and has achieved remarkable excellence in one of the most fiercely competitive areas of the arts: classical music.

The orchestra was founded in 1983 by Avner Biron, who has been its music director and permanent conductor ever since. Well known for his creativity, inventiveness and originality, Biron has brought the Israel Camerata Jerusalem Orchestra to the highest standard in Israeli musical life, and won worldwide recognition for it.

Under Biron's direction, the Israel Camerata Jerusalem Orchestra performs a repertoire ranging from early baroque to contemporary music, including world premieres of works commissioned by the orchestra, with a special emphasis on works by Israeli composers.

Joining the Israel Camerata Jerusalem Orchestra on its Australian debut tour is cellist Zvi Plesser. Based in Israel, Zvi Plesser has performed worldwide and collaborated with some of our time's leading instrumentalists and conductors including appearing as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in a special concert conducted by Maestro Sir Simon Rattle.

The highlight of the September performances will be works by Ukrainian/Israeli composer Mark Kopytman who is renowned for crafting compositions of intricate beauty. The first concert features Kopytman's Beyond all this.... In the words of the composer, it is "a mixture of reflections of the feelings, thoughts and dreams about the people and the country to which I belong". The second performance will provide great contrast highlighting another of Kopytman's landmark works Kaddish, inspired by the intricate melodic beauty of Jewish sacred and folk music. The programs also feature Dvo?ák's impassioned cello concerto, one of the most magnificent in the repertoire, and Haydn's joyous Symphony No.85 and the pulse-quickening Cello Concerto in C major.

Proudly presented by City Recital Hall and John Cristian Productions
