Houston Symphony to Celebrate the Holidays in Free Concert at Church Without Walls, 12/10
Led by guest conductor Ming Luke, the program will include holiday favorites and feature members of the CityWide Grassroots Chorus and Church Without Walls Choir. Luke is a versatile conductor who has worked with musical ensembles all over the world. He will lead the orchestra and the chorus singers in a festive program that will commence with a joyous holiday overture and will include several flavors of Christmas music, including Caribbean Sleigh Ride, traditional classics Joy to the World and Carol of the Bells, and gospel favorites Go, Tell It on the Mountain and Jesus, O What a Wonderful Child.
The CityWide Grassroots Chorus is a project of the Houston Symphony's African-American Leadership Council, a vision of founder Brodrick Hill, to recognize the musical contributions of many talented African-American composers. The Church Without Walls Choir will be making their Houston Symphony debut.
The Houston Symphony will offer its Instrument Petting Zoo for children starting at 6:45 p.m. The petting zoo allows children to become acquainted with orchestral instruments by holding and playing them.
