BSO Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly to Lead 'An Evening with Jason Alexander,' 1/22-25

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) Principal Pops Conductor ?Jack Everly will lead the BSO SuperPops in a concert featuring actor and Broadway star Jason Alexander, Thursday, January 22 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore, and on Friday, January 23 at 8 p.m., Saturday January 24 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, January 25 at 3 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Best known for his iconic portrayal of George Costanza on the hit series "Seinfeld," Alexander first had a successful and lengthy Broadway career. He joins the Orchestra to reminisce about his remarkable and versatile career on the stage and screen, performing songs from several Broadway favorites, including Music Man, Pippin and Merrily We Roll Along. "An Evening with Jason Alexander" begins with the BSO SuperPops performing Pops favorites, including musical selections from Gypsy, Peter Pan and The King & I. Jason Alexander then joins the Orchestra on stage in the second half of the program with accompanist Keith Harrison for a program of song, dance and comedy.

Jason Alexander is undoubtedly best known for his iconic portrayal of hapless George Costanza on the legendary hit show "Seinfeld." The series continues to air around the world, showcasing the reason Mr. Alexander received seven Emmy nominations, four Golden Globe nominations, two American Television awards, two American Comedy awards and two Screen Actor Guild awards for his indelible work. But his career is one that defines diversity in every form - acting, producing, directing, writing -- and in every media.

Initially focusing on the Broadway stage, Mr. Alexander has starred in the original production of Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along as well as The Rink, Neil Simon's Broadway Bound and Jerome Robbins' Broadway, a musical revue that Mr. Alexander both authored and starred in, playing 14 different roles each night and for which he won a Drama Desk, Outer Critic Circle and Tony Award for Best Musical Actor. Even after moving to Los Angeles, he continued his dedication to the theater by becoming the artistic director of the Reprise Theatre Company and triumphantly starring with Martin Short in the Los Angeles production of Mel Brooks' The Producers.

Jack Everly is the principal pops conductor of the Baltimore and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestras, Naples Philharmonic Orchestra and National Arts Centre Orchestra (Ottawa), and the music director of the National Memorial Day Concert and "A Capitol Fourth" on PBS. He has been on stage with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, The New York Pops at Carnegie Hall and appears regularly with The Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Center. His frequent guest conducting engagements include the orchestras of Pittsburgh, Edmonton, Oklahoma City.

Everly is the music director of Yuletide Celebration, now a 26-year tradition. These theatrical symphonic holiday concerts are presented annually in December in Indianapolis and are seen by more than 40,000 concert-goers. He led the ISO in its first Pops recording, Yuletide Celebration, Volume One, which included three of his own arrangements.

Originally appointed by Mikhail Baryshnikov, Everly was conductor of the American Ballet Theatre for 14 years, where he served as music director. In addition to his ABT tenure, he teamed with Marvin Hamlisch in Broadway shows that Mr. Hamlisch scored, including The Goodbye Girl, They're Playing Our Song and A Chorus Line. He conducted Carol Channing hundreds of times in Hello, Dolly! in two separate Broadway productions.

Everly has conducted the songs for Disney's animated classic The Hunchback of Notre Dame and led the Czech Philharmonic on the recordings In the Presence, featuring tenor Daniel Rodriguez and Sandi Patty's 2011 release Broadway Stories. He also conducted the critically-praised Everything's Coming Up Roses: The Complete Overtures of Broadway's Jule Styne, and was music director for numerous Broadway cast recordings.

Maestro Everly holds an honorary doctorate of arts from Franklin College in his home state of Indiana.
