Zeke Smith wants to shed some light on indigenous cultures. Smith recently published a Christmas-time children's story "The Missing Reindeer" (published by AuthorHouse), which features a fictitious tribe that is loosely related to the Sami tribe of Scandinavia.

Set in Northern Scandinavia, the story follows Little Sammy, a member of an indigenous tribe that depends on reindeer to survive in the winter. When the tribe's reindeer magically disappear, their prospect for enduring the upcoming winter becomes grim. But Little Sammy remains optimistic. His Christmas wish is to get his tribe's reindeer back. "Will his wish come true?" the author asks.

Smith wants readers to develop an appreciation for the things in their life that they may take for granted. One may not understand how vital something is until it is lost. Not only is "The Missing Reindeer" the perfect holiday gift, but it is also the story that every parent will want to read to their children before bedtime during the Christmas season. "The excellent illustrations combined with the rhyming text make for a very fun read!" Smith further describes his book.

An excerpt from the book:
Soon he discovered something wasn't quite right:
The reindeer were missing. They were nowhere in sight!
No break in the fencing; no trampled grass on the ground,
They had simply vanished, their disappearance profound.

Smith hopes that through this book, readers will appreciate that there are real peoples in the world today who still perform their ancient practice of reindeer herding - and, in fact, do so as a means of survival. The Sami tribe is one example.
