"Twas the night before Christmas..."

Nearly everyone in America has heard the classic poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” more commonly known as “The Night Before Christmas.” First published in 1823, this yuletide poem has been adapted into numerous children’s books, parodies, and television programs.

“World War II Night Before Christmas” takes place on Christmas Eve, 1944 – along the front lines in Europe. Written by renowned military author Mike Guardia, and beautifully illustrated by Melanie Stephens, this book tells the story of Santa's surprise visit to the American GIs who are enduring the harsh winter without adequate food, clothing, or supplies.

Mike Guardia is an internationally-recognized author and historian. A veteran of the United States Army, he served six years on active duty as an Armor Officer. Since 2010, he has authored twelve (12) books on various topics ranging from military history to children's literature. He also the father of two wonderful girls, ages 5 and 6. They are a continuous source of inspiration for his literary endeavors. "World War II Night Before Christmas" is his second children’s book. He current lives in Minnesota.

Melanie Stephens is a distinguished artist and children’s book illustrator. She has been a professional illustrator since 2003. Her previous works include “If Dogs Could Do Chores” and “Silly Blue Goose.” A proud wife and mother of three amazing children, she is also a self-described “caretaker to a number of crazy pets.” She currently resides in Virginia.
