Three Aptara-produced eBooks are finalists in the 2014 Digital Book Awards, the annual program that recognizes excellence and innovation in digital publishing for the past year. Two titles are in the "eBook Fixed Format/Enhanced - Children" category and one is in the "Inkling Habitat eBooks" category. Winners will be announced at the 2014 Digital Book World Conference & Expo, January 14, 2014 in New York City.

"Dynamic partnerships with great publishing customers is what makes our eBook design and production innovation possible," said Bill Penders, President of Aptara. "It's exciting to help publishers reach their audiences in new, more impactful ways."

The Aptara-produced eBook finalists are:

"First Time on a Plane"
Publisher: Parragon
Category: eBook Fixed Format/Enhanced - Children
Aptara conceptualized and designed interactivities to bring a print activity book to life on an iPad through iBooks Author. A finger swipe replaces a crayon and "digital stickers" substitute for the real thing, creating fun digital activities for children.

"The Man with the Violin"
Publisher: Annick Press, Ltd.
Category: eBook Fixed Format/Enhanced - Children
This enhanced eBook includes audio read-aloud, embedded music, and exciting animations on every page. It was developed in a fixed layout EPUB format for the iPad, in KF8 format for the new Kindle, and optimized EPUB format for Kobo.

"Moore's Clinically Oriented Anatomy"
Publisher: Lippincott Williams & Wilkins
Category: The Digital Book Award for Inkling Habitat
Designed and produced for the Inkling Habitat platform, this book's many interactive features include thorough illustrations of each piece of anatomy covered in the text, slide shows, self tests, and sub-reader cards.

"This year's finalists represent the most creative work taking place in digital publishing today," said David Blansfield, co-president of parent company F+W Media, Inc. "It's our pleasure to honor these companies and we're doubly excited to have the opportunity to do so at Digital Book World."
