Tiggy and Tobias, brother sea-cats who live in a lighthouse on a beach, don't seem to have much in common. In this new illustrated children's book, sibling rivalry takes its toll, must as it does in human families. Rough-and-tumble Tiggy tells sea-glass-collector Tobias that he doesn't act like a real cat. Tobias, whose feelings are hurt, begins to hang out with a pelican who shares his interest in art. But when Tiggy gets in real trouble, it's Tobias who must come to his rescue.

"The Tales of Tiggy & Tobias: Brotherly Love" shares the story of the growing friendship between Tobias and Pilot, the friendly pelican. Soon, Tobias is finding fish on his doorstep - fish that he doesn't need to share with the scary seagulls he and his brother typically confront. One day, the fish don't show up and neither does his brother. Tobias finds the courage to search for Tiggy with help from Pilot, and the two brothers discover that what's important about being a sea-cat isn't fierce fighting and hunting skills but having the courage to be true and loving to others.

Richly vivid illustrations by the author bring the coastline to life and play a starring role in this story featuring a gentle lesson about brotherly love and affection. The charming story works equally well for young readers or those who prefer to sit in a lap.

Author and illustrator Shanthi Thiruppathi was inspired by the rugged beauty of the North Carolina coast and her two real-life cats to create this children's book. She earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and is pursuing an art career through her business, Into the Blue. Thiruppathi's painting "Salty Curl" was displayed as part of the State of the Art/Art of the State exhibit from June to October 2011 at the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, N.C. This book is the first in a planned series of stories featuring the cats.
