Dingoes, also known as Australian wild dogs, are free-roaming hounds found throughout mainland Australia. They are said to have behavioral traits similar to most primitive dogs, but only few people know the real pleasures and problems associated with dingo domestication. Inspired by her many years of first-hand experience with dingoes, author Gill Ryhorchuk offers Living With Dingoes, an instructive handbook that provides a better understanding of these canids.

On top of an up-close observation of dingoes from nearly 40 years ago, Ryhorchuk gathered data and information about dingoes from other owners and researched the behavior of wolves and domesticated dogs to further grasp the nature and temperament of these species. In this book, she discloses their behavior and habits from hunting, to social and dietary.

This volume not only informs dingo owners and hopeful owners of the difficulties and pleasures of everyday living with dingoes-which look like ordinary dogs but are certainly not-it also inspires the reader to learn more and understand this animal. Also, as with other pets, owning a dingo requires effort and responsibility. Raising one depends largely on the time and supervision these animals duly need.

While most books on dingoes are from research with no actual experience, Living With Dingoes gives details on the lives of dingoes culled from day-to-day experience to provide readers insight, knowledge and enjoyment all at once.

About the Author
Gill Ryhorchuk grew up in Melbourne, with only the occasional domestic dog or cat in the household. She always loved animals. After returning home from Canada with her husband, Richard, she heard about dingoes on the television and, from there, obtained her first dingo. Now retired, Ryhorchuk was trained as a nurse, midwife and woolclasser. She broke in the horses, did their shoeing, and trained them for endurance.
