Edwin D. Armbruster, known as 'Captain Ed' to his colleagues, lived a fascinating life as he flew thousands of hours over the jungles of Panama and the Caribbean in single engine planes. Over 700 students called him their instructor as he piloted them from Atlantic to Pacific over and along the Panama Canal, through Panama, Central and South America. In his memoir "Unusual Attitudes" (published by Xlibris), he relates these experiences beginning with the halcyon days of Canal Zone life to navigating more troubled times as the drug wars escalated, filled with adventure on every page.

About the Author
Edwin D. Armbruster was born just before the outbreak of WW2 in Washington D.C. He grew up in Arlington Virginia, attended Washington and Lee High school. His family moved to New Port Richey FL. where he finished High School at Gulf High, 1954. Armbruster met his wife, Jean, in High school and was married a year later. He enlisted in the USAF in Feb. 1957 and after a year of Tech school at Keesler AFB, Biloxi MS., was deployed to Clark AFB, Philippines for two years. Finishing his last year back at Keesler, was discharged and returned to Florida finding a job at Cape Canaveral. He was employed by the Martin Marietta Company. In May of 1963, he volunteered to join a group of engineers and technicians to conduct tropical tests on the Pershing Missile system in the Canal Zone in Panama. After the four-month program was completed, Armbruster applied for a job with the Panama Canal Company and returned to Panama in October 1964 to accept a position as an Electronics Technician. He later transferred to the Hydrological/Meteorological Branch of the Engineering Div. working as a Hydrographic Technician until he retired in 1985 when he was running a flight business which he started in 1965. Beside his interesting job, he was active in his church serving in leadership positions, explorer Scout adviser and in his community where he served two years as a Mayor of a large American Community. His wife was employed by the US Army as a political analyst, 193rd Infantry Brigade at Ft. Clayton and Ft. Amador. They have four children, one of which was born in the Canal Zone. In 2011, Armbruster and his wife served a 6-month "service mission" for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the Triangle Ranch, Paducah, Texas. 160,000 acre cattle ranch, where Armbruster operated a Caterpillar Tractor taking out trees. Jean did genealogy research and indexing for the Church. The couple has travelled extensively throughout the world.
