Amir Nojan and Pejman Hadadi will present a program of Persian classical music at Roulette in Brooklyn. The performance, titled Whispers of the Dastgah, will explore traditional modal improvisation within the dastgah system. The event is part of Robert Browning Associates’ 50th anniversary season.

Robert Browning Associates, in collaboration with Lotus Music & Dance and Roulette, will present Whispers of the Dastgah, a concert of Persian classical music featuring Amir Nojan and Pejman Hadadi, on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. at Roulette in Downtown Brooklyn.

The program will feature improvisations rooted in the Persian dastgah system, a traditional modal framework that forms the foundation of classical Persian music. Nojan will perform on the setar, a plucked lute central to the repertoire, while Hadadi will perform on the tombak and daf, percussion instruments integral to Persian musical traditions. The performance will explore the relationship between established musical forms and spontaneous interpretation.

Nojan, originally from Shiraz, Iran, has studied with prominent teachers including Dariush Tala’i, Jalal Zolfonoun, and Mohammad Reza Lotfi. He has performed internationally as a soloist and ensemble musician and founded the Nava Ensemble as well as the Shiraz Arts Academy in California.

Hadadi, who began his career in Iran and later established himself in the United States, has performed with ensembles including Dastan and Zarbang and collaborated with artists such as Ali Akbar Moradi, Hossein Alizadeh, and Kayhan Kalhor. He has received the Durfee Foundation Master Musician Award and currently lectures in ethnomusicology.

Ticket Information

The performance will take place at Roulette, located at 509 Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. Tickets are priced at $35 in advance, $40 at the door, and $30 for seniors and students. For tickets and additional information, call the box office at 917-267-0363.

The concert is part of the 50th anniversary season of Robert Browning Associates, marking five decades of presenting international music and dance, including more than 2,500 performances in New York and across the United States.
