BAM announces the full lineup for the tenth annual BAMcinemaFest (Jun 20—Jul 1). Described as “filmgoers' most exhilarating annual opportunity for discovery” (The Village Voice), BAMcinemaFest has evolved into a platform for both emerging and established filmmakers as well as unconventional and often overlooked films. This year's 12-day festival presents all New York premieres including two North American premieres, and three world premieres.

Struggling with PTSD, homelessness, broken families, serious illness, physical injuries, and military sexual abuse, these inspiring women find ways to adapt to the challenges they face through participation in the “Ms. Veteran America” competition. Guided by event founder and veteran Major Jas Boothe, the women work hard to prepare for the competition, and, in the process, recover parts of their identities they had lost on the battlefield. Filled with humor and heart in equal measures, Served Like a Girl premieres on Independent Lens on Memorial Day,Monday, May 28, 2018, 10:00-11:30 PM ET (check local listings) on PBS.

13 Reasons Why is a new series from Netflix adapted from the best-selling books by Jay Asher. It follows teenager Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) as he returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker (newcomer Katherine Langford) -his classmate and crush-who tragically committed suicide two weeks earlier. On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Will Clay be one of them? If he listens, he'll find out how he made the list. Through Hannah and Clay's dual narratives, 13 Reasons Why weaves an intricate and heart wrenching story of teenage life that will deeply affect viewers.

Today, Hysterical Kindness, a new collaboration between Emile Hirsch, Chris Sayre and Brian Cohen, announced their debut album Simple Things set for release on June 1st.  The album is a collection of 13 stirring tracks that feature Hirsch's rich melodies and soul-baring lyrics wrapped in Sayre and Cohen's captivating soundscapes.  The first track off the album, 'You' premiered today.

Sobini Films announced today that Dayo Okeniyi has been cast as the lead in the Civil War-era historical drama EMPEROR, to be directed by Mark Amin, the veteran producer and former Vice Chairman of Lionsgate. The film will be produced by Reginald Hudlin for Hudlin Entertainment and by Cami Winikoff and Amin for Sobini, with a script co-written by Amin and Pat Charles. Sobini's Tyler Boehm is executive producing. UTA is handling domestic sales. EMPEROR is scheduled to go into production in June in Savannah, Georgia.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Queer Eye's Antoni Porowski has signed a deal with Rux Martin of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for his first cookbook, consisting of 100 recipes, that will be published in the spring of next year. According to HMH, Porowski will continue to promote the simple, healthy, visually appealing fare that marked his culinary approach on the Netflix reboot.

This morning, Gillian Welch announces new “An Evening With” tour dates in cities including Las Vegas, Portland, New Orleans and two dates in Saxapahaw, NC (full dates below). On this tour Gillian Welch and her musical partner, David Rawlings, will perform two full sets of music with no opener. Additionally, Gillian Welch will co-headline a Red Rocks Amphitheatre show with Punch Brothers on September 17th and will perform with Father John Misty at The Hollywood Bowl on June 24th. Tickets for all dates will go on sale this Friday, May 4th and can be purchased here.
