Atlanta Fringe Festival Submission Deadline Set for 1/15January 4, 2013The deadline approaches for submission to second annual edition of The Atlanta Fringe Festival,running June 5-9, 2013, at locations throughout downtown and East Atlanta. Artists interested in participating in the Fringe Festival or Fringe Radio have until Tuesday, January 15 to send in their proposals via the AFF website:www.atlantafringe.org. Applications for the Fringe Festival are $25, with productions selected randomly via lottery. Applications for Fringe Radio are $15, with 25 slots available on a first come, first served basis.
The 2013 Women of Concern Awards Luncheon Set for 2/22January 4, 2013Concern Worldwide hosts its annual Women of Concern Awards Luncheon on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, 200 North Columbus Drive, Chicago, IL. The event, now in its 15th year, honors women who have demonstrated the qualities of justice, generosity and compassion in their work and daily lives. The 2013 Women of Concern Awards will be presented to Mari Gallagher, Principal of Mari Gallagher Research and Consulting, and Shirley Welsh Ryan, Co-Founder of Pathways Center. The event will recognize their significant accomplishments and exceptional achievements. The funds raised by the luncheon will support Concern's most needed programs in 25 developing countries. Annually, more than 600 guests attend the event. The co-chairs of the event are Cherryl Thomas and Peg Lombardo, who are both residents of Chicago.

The Martha Graham Dance Company Announces Joyce Theater Season, 2/20-3/3January 4, 2013The Martha Graham Dance Company (Janet Eilber, Artistic Director; LaRue Allen, Executive Director) will present 15 performances at The Joyce Theater, February 20-March 3, 2013. The season continues the company's innovative thematic presentations with Myth and Transformation-three compelling programs that explore how artists reinvent iconic stories to make bold contemporary statements. The two-week season features Graham masterworks including Phaedra, Cave of the Heart, Night Journey, Errand into the Maze, and Diversion of Angels alongside new commissions and premieres from Richard Move, Luca Veggetti, and Doug Varone. A reconstruction of a Graham solo, Imperial Gesture (1935), will also be presented. Performances will take place Wednesday, February 20 to Sunday, February 24; and Tuesday, February 26 to Sunday, March 3.
Dallas Theater Center Launches Come Early Pre-Show Lectures, Beginning 1/18January 4, 2013Dallas Theater Center announced today that it will launch a new, free pre-show lecture program, Come Early, sponsored by Wells Fargo, with the first performance of King Lear on January 18. Come Early is an informative 30-minute lecture that will be offered before every performance of every play at DTC. This oddball romantic comedy finds gambler Nathan Detroit desperate for money to pay for his floating crap game. To seed his opportunity, he bets Sky Masterson a thousand dollars that Sky will not be able to make the next girl he sees, Save a Soul Mission do-gooder Sarah Brown, fall in love with him. While Sky is eventually able to convince Sarah to be his girl, Nathan fights his own battles with Adelaide, his fiance of 14 years. Often called "the perfect musical," GUYS AND DOLLS features such bright and brassy songs as "A Bushel and a Peck" "Luck Be a Lady," and "Adelaide's Lament." Jon Tracy (Berkeley Playhouse, Aurora Theatre Company, Shotgun Players, San Francisco Playhouse, Magic Theatre) helms this musical, his seventh production for Berkeley Playhouse.
