Red, a drama Josh Logan, will open at the State Theatre in downtown Eustis on February 21 and run through February 24. Called "a visceral exercise in art appreciation" by the New York Times, Red tells the story of artist Mark Rothko, and his commission in 1958 to paint a series of murals for the Four Seasons restaurant in New York. The play explores the heart of a controversial artist and the compromises that must sometimes be made between art and the need to survive. This production features long-time friends and collaborators Terrence Shank and Joel Warren.

Abingdon Theatre Company is set to participate in the first-ever Wuzhen Theatre Festival in Wuzhen, China. At the invitation of the festival's artistic team, Abingdon will present its upcoming Off-Broadway production, THE LAST WILL by Robert Brustein, who has been named the festival's honorary chairman.

Gary Valentine got his start in show business on the stand up comedy stage. After an appearance at the Montreal Comedy Festival, he left his native New York for heavier traffic in Los Angeles. There, he quickly landed spots on various talk shows including, "The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno", among others. He's been headlining comedy clubs and theaters for the past fifteen years.

At the heart of Elsewhere, which receives its world premiere in this production, is a mother-son relationship set in an inner-ring suburb of Chicago in 1969. In the play, widowed single mother Monica squirrels away money to help her 16-year-old son Adam avoid the draft and considers an affair with her divorced boss. Meanwhile, Adam starts a romantic and physical relationship with his uninhibited girlfriend Dana, and resists the advice of the lonely high school counselor he used to trust. Monica's old high school friend Bonnie deals with the loss of affection from her alcoholic husband and her absent son who enlisted to fight in Vietnam. In this touching, insightful and frequently funny play, each of the five characters is dealing with the loss of a relationship and struggling to build new ones in the midst of a frighteningly changing world.
