Michael Jackson ONE is a resident Cirque du Soleil show at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. The show follows four friends being chased by cyborg beings after stealing MJ's iconic bejewelled glove. Along the way, each of them encounters different items of the late performer's visual persona: the aforementioned glove, his shoes, his glasses, and his fedora. Each companion gets a scene focused on them where they encounter one of the shortcomings of their personality, but with the help of one of these items, is able to overcome it.
Audra McDonald, the reigning Queen of Broadway, is a woman who needs no introduction in the theatre community. This is probably why the seats at the Steppenwolf Theatre were packed Monday evening with audience members who clung silently to her every word, laughed heartily at every joke, and exploded with applause and ovations at every possibility.
Concert for America is a humanitarian effort by the Broadway community that woke up in early November, as we all did, to the realities of President Trump. The initiative seeks to raise money for organizations that have always been important for social justice, but will prove ever more vital in the current administration. These include such causes as the Southern Poverty Law Center, NAACP, Sierra Club, NCADV, and National Immigration Law Center.
The High Kings made their inaugural visit to College of DuPage as part of their tour to celebrate and promote their fourth studio album Grace & Glory. The band consists of four Irish men who perform folk music: some original compositions, some traditional songs that many Irish bands have covered over the years. Many songs during the performance were from the new album, which includes Irish standards like “Follow Me Up to Carlow” but also surprises like American folk song “Goodnight Irene” and even a charming arrangement of Thin Lizzy's “The Boys are Back in Town”.
