Il Trovatore at Athenaeum Theatre Melbourne

Melbourne Opera presents Giuseppe Verdi's Il Trovatore, dedicated to the memory of Dame Joan Sutherland in celebration of her centenary year. Director Matthew Barclay leads a production starring Helena Dix and Rosario La Spina as the ill-fated lovers Leonora and Manrico, with Sarah Sweeting as Azucena, Christopher Hillier as Conte di Luna, Steven Gallop as Ferrando, and Amanda Windred as Ines. Conductor Raymond Lawrence leads the Melbourne Opera Orchestra and Chorus through celebrated arias including 'Di quella pira' and the famous 'Anvil Chorus'. The story follows Manrico, Azucena, Leonora and Count di Luna as mistaken revenge, doomed love and vicious rivalry collide. Sung in Italian with English surtitles.
