Gina Rings Directs OUR CORKA BUBS - A Dance Work For Babies From 1-3 March 2018 the first Aboriginal contemporary dance work for babies, Our Corka Bubs graces Arts Centre Melbourne with a treasured family together experience of Indigenous music and movement, especially choreographed for babies under 2 years alongside their parents/carers.

Under the direction of renowned South Australian Indigenous choreographer Gina Rings, Our Corka Bubs is grounded in Australia's First Nations' culture, weaving early childhood developmental concepts with traditional storytelling.

The performance uses gentle motifs of water, earth and the bush along with gestural dance and traditional live and recorded sounds to create a gently interactive and transformative work that pays attention to a baby's need to explore and yet feel secure.

The intimate work unfolds with dancers Taree and Caleena Sansbury (Ochre Dance Company's Dreamtide, Community Phone, Yellaka and Long Grass choreographed by Vicki Van Hout) accompanied by their uncle Owen Love, who provides the musical accompaniment, playing to a limited audience of 20 babies each with one adult. Tickets for additional observers are available.

"This delicate and eloquently choreographed show for babies is beautifully crafted to provide a magical sonic space for babies to be immersed in our cultures," said Gina Ring, whose practise has traversed classical ballet, contemporary dance and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island traditional dance disciplines.

In addition to her time with Bangarra where she was the leading female dancer with the Company, Ring has choreographed numerous dance works, collaborated with Trevor Jamieson and Scott Rankin and has served as Artistic Director of Kurruru Indigenous Youth Theatre and Adelaide's Spirit Festival.

Our Corka Bubs was previously presented at Adelaide Fringe and Yirramboi First Nations Arts Festival and is based on an earlier work called This (Baby) Life by Sally Chance, which was researched and choreographed in 2011 whilst Chance completed a fellowship from the Australia Council. Her research delved into culture, babies and the value of immersive dance performance.
