… And in exciting news the rock anthem Long Way To The Top has been added to the
vaults with the announcement by the federal Arts Minister, Simon Crean, that AC/DC's
1975, "It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Want to Rock n Roll)", with its reverberating
bagpipe riff, has been selected for inclusion in the National Registry of Recorded Sound.
The archive honours recordings with cultural, historic and aesthetic significance.

From 250,000 sound recordings held in the National Film and Sound Archive, only 64 have
made it on to the Sound Register since it began in 2007. Angus Young, Malcolm Young
and Bon Scott would not have been thinking of the significance of this song when they
wrote it all those years ago. One of Australia's most important musical and cultural exports
who still tour and record tirelessly, their song remains an anthem across the generations.

As well as taking its title from the song and ABC documentary of the same name, the Long
Way to the Top 10th Anniversary will also pay a special acknowledgement to the late,
great Billy Thorpe. When Billy Thorpe died on 28 February 2007 he left behind a legacy
of music which will also never be forgotten by millions of people who loved him.

Long Way to the Top will be honouring Billy with a special presentation of musion effects
created by Director, Ted Robinson who worked with Billy on many occasion.

Ted Robinson said; "Working with Billy Thorpe ten years ago was a great experience
professionally and personally. He had such vision of how Long Way should unfold
onstage; it was inspiring for me as a Director. Having to create the 'moment' in the show
now for him is a bittersweet experience but I'm honoured to undertake it. Knowing the
audience miss him as much as all the participants within the show, we had to get as close
to having him 'in the room' as possible. The technology available now is remarkable to
achieve this and the musion system is very exciting to work with. To my knowledge this is
the first time anyone has undertaken this sort of exercise with a music icon of Billy's
stature in Australia. We spent months forensically searching for footage of him that would
allow the moment to be created and, whilst we are still underway, every day he gets a bit
closer to us which is enormously exciting. The Whole team can't wait for this to unfold on
stage in October."

The songs of Billy Thorpe will be performed by Cold Chisel's Ian Moss. Renowned as one
of Australia's most amazing guitarists, his style is similar to that of his late friend Billy.
