Arts Centre Melbourne and Arts Projects Australia Present Goran Bregovi & His Wedding & Funeral Band ImageFollowing sell out performances in 2013 and 2016, Goran Bregovi? & his Wedding & Funeral Band continue the Balkan party with their fiery, brassy Gypsy sounds, when they return to Hamer Hall for one feverish night on 14 May, 2019.

A dedicated explorer of musical cultures, this composer, bandleader, singer and musician is nothing if not eclectic. Bregovi? and his motley crew of musicians produce an utterly euphoric sound combining brass, percussion and lively Bulgarian vocals. In this concert offering, they will debut songs from his latest album, Three Letters from Sarajevo alongside much-loved fan favourites.

Once the leader of former Yugoslavia's biggest band - the multi-million selling Bijelo Dugme - the Serbian-Croatian has led an unbound career that has included selling over 6 million records and a legendary line up of collaborators including Iggy Pop, Eugene Hütz of American gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello, avant-garde musician Scott Walker, Polish star Kayah and fellow party-starters The Gipsy Kings.

The composer however is perhaps best known for the heart-wrenching scores written for the Palme d'Or-winning filmmaker Emir Kusturica, beginning with 1989's Time of the Gypsies and culminating in the instant-classic Underground (1995).

Bregovi? breaks cultural boundaries in a sonic dream where race, sex, age and religion meld into one. The Balkan virtuoso's concerts are known as triumphant affairs, an expression of his love of music that beguiles audiences.
