Anthony Scundi Stars As Guido In StageArt's NINE The Musical Image

StageArt has announced that Melbourne actor Anthony Scundi will be playing the lead role of Guido Contini in their upcoming production of the Broadway smash hit NINE The Musical. .

Anthony is chief executive of Q44 Theatre Inc and has starred in featured shows such as 'Ironbound' as Maks, Eddie in 'Hurlyburly', Ian in 'Shining City', Tony Aronica in 'Savage in Limbo' and as Andrew in 'Spike Heels'.

The spotlight is on famed Italian film director Guido Contini who is suffering debilitating writer's block, while facing a marriage breakdown in the middle of having a mid-life crisis. At the age of 40, Guido must call on the nine closest and most powerful women in his life to put him back on the road to success and happiness.

Based on Federico Fellini's Academy Award winning semi-autobiographical film 81/2, the musical opened on Broadway in 1989, winning five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. A film version of the musical was released in 2009, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Judi Dench, Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren, Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson, Fergie and Marion Cotillard.

StageArt has gathered a stellar creative team to bring this powerful and award winning musical of self-discovery to life. Directed & choreographed by Michael Ralph (Bring It On, West Side Story) one of the countries leading and most sort after creatives, he will be assisted by Sheridan Anderson (The Wizard Of Oz, We Will Rock You) as Assistant Choreographer and Evan Lever (La Cage Aux Folles, Anything Goes) as Assistant Director. Nathan Firmin (The Full Monty, Memphis) is leading the musical department as Musical Director. The role of Guido Contini will be understudied by talented Melbourne actor/singer Robbie Blowers.

NINE The Musical is a rich tapestry of everything Broadway, with knockout power songs, captivating choreography and a deeply moving story that makes you think about your life and the people in it.

NINE The Musical is written by Arthur Kopit (book) and Maury Yeston (music). The original Broadway production won 5 Tony Awards and 7 drama desk awards. The 2003 revival starring Antonio Banderas scored to Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. StageArt are staging NINE The Musical in alignment with the most recent revival and in arrangement with Samuel French.

StageArt, led by Katherine Armstrong and Robbie Carmellotti, continue to produce groundbreaking musicals that are rarely seen on Australian stages. The company strives to cast its shows with diversity and equality by showcasing the extraordinary talent that exists locally.
