UT at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance Debuts Katie Bender's THE FAULT, Now thru 12/7

By:

The University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance presents the premiere engagement of new a play by Katie Bender, The Fault today, December 3-7 at the Oscar G. Brockett Theatre.

"In The Fault, the Davies' have isolated themselves as far west as geographically possible. Pressed between the redwoods and the Pacific Ocean they try to make a life free from constraints, off the grid, and of their own design. Yet, in searching out freedom, they've lost connection to any other perspective," shares playwright Katie Bender. "The play explores the ways families create and pass down modes of communication, systems of understanding and ways of looking at the world. It asks what we inherit from our parents and what we choose to live by."

Bender is a playwright, performer and third-year master of fine arts candidate in playwriting at The University of Texas at Austin. Her plays are irreverent, fun and magical, exploring characters and worlds at The Edge of what is possible. She is a founding member of Underbelly - a theatre collaborative that stages immersive journey plays in forgotten spaces, riffing on American classics. Underbelly's devised piece Slip River premiered at the 2013 Cohen New Works Festival and won the Austin Critics' Table Award for Best Comedy.

The Fault features an all-star cast including: Lowell Bartholomee as Bill, Estrella Gonzales as Angie, Ellie McBride as Sarah, Alison Stoos as Jane, and Raquel Watson as Star.

Direction by Charles Otte - Costume Design by Hope Bennett - Scenic and Projection Design by Stephanie Busing - Technical Direction by W. Scott Bussey - Sound Design by Billy Henry - Lighting Design by Larry Lehew - Stage Management by Kristian Wolf Piña.
