Wingspan Arts holds its first-ever ARTOPIA event on Saturday, March 14 from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM. This action-packed one-day-only kid-centric arts festival takes place at PS 9 on New York City's Upper West Side. PS 9 is located at 100 West 84th Street at Columbus Avenue. This event is FREE and open to families. Suggested donations at the door will benefit Wingspan Arts' scholarship fund exclusively.

ARTOPIA delivers three hours of interactive arts programming for students and their parents in a festival environment utilizing different spaces within PS 9. Performances by Wingspan Arts' school programs and Conservatory students and film screenings will run "Mainstage" in the school's auditorium, while in other rooms, participants enjoy master classes in Capoeira, Drumming and Dance, Hip Hop and other interactive arts. Between master classes and mainstage performances, festival-goers can browse the Wingspan Arts' bake sale, contribute to a mural, learn about stage make-up techniques or experience face painting, among other offerings. Additionally, interested young filmmakers will have the opportunity to make a movie during the 3-hour festival, and a
screening of this original movie will close out the afternoon's events.

This event is fully subsidized by grant money. All other day-of donations will directly benefit students in the Wingspan Arts Tuition-Free Summer Theatre and Film Conservatory.

"The mission of Wingspan Arts has always been to connect students to the arts, and the arts to life. Right now, the New York Metro community should be able to spend some time pursuing fun and exciting activities with their families, for free, close to home - and a local arts festival provides just that opportunity. At the same time, all donations made will go directly toward funding our Summer Conservatory, a training program for students who choose theater or film as a creative outlet. In these times especially, we want to be sure that programs that give kids a much-needed artistic outlet maintain necessary support. We are working with future actors, directors, writers and cinematographers, and each of them deserves a chance to shine," says Wingspan Arts' Producing Artistic Director, Jessica Bashline.

About Wingspan Arts:
Our mission is to reach out and expose diverse groups, especially young audiences, to all forms of the performing, visual, media and literary arts. We accomplish this by engaging professional artist educators who are inspired by the work they do and have a unique gift for sharing that inspiration with students. Wingspan Arts was founded in 2001 and thousands of children across the New York Metro Region have benefited from its customized in-school, after-school and conservatory
programs.

The Wingspan Arts Summer Conservatory is a tuition-free program for students 6th-12th grade that want to spend a summer focused on the study of theater or film. Selections are made for this competitive program through an audition process. For more on Wingspan Arts or the Summer Conservatory, visit www.WingspanArts.org or contact Jessica Bashline (jessica@wingspanarts.org).

Wingspan Arts Summer Conservatory and other educational programs are generously provided by the New York City Council and the Office of Council Member Gale A. Brewer, The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, The Mary Duke Biddle Foundation, Proskauer Rose LLP, I.W. Foundation, The Path Fund, The Hammerman and Fisch Foundation, The Shubert Organization Inc., the Wingspan Arts Board of Directors and Advisory Board, many local PTAs, and individual donors.

ARTOPIA takes place Saturday, March 14 from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM. PS 9 is located at 100 West 84th Street at Columbus Avenue. Admission is FREE. Suggested donation at the door. ARTOPIA is aimed at kids 6-12 years and their parents; all ages welcome.
