By: Aug. 15, 2016

As reported by BroadwayWorld, the entertainment community was saddened yesterday to learn of the loss of stage and screen star Fyvush Finkel, a Brooklyn-born veteran of New York's famed Yiddish Theatre who, in his 70s, gained national fame through television with his humor and charm. He was 93.

Born in 1922, Finkel got his start as a boy actor earning $1 a performance. When he was 43 he began touring in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF playing the Innkeeper, then the Butcher and eventually Tevye.

He won an Emmy Award for his role as Douglas Wambaugh on "Picket Fences" and has also been seen on screen in "Boston Public," "Nixon," "For Love or Money," "Mobsters," "Seize the Day," "Q&A," "Fantasy Island," "Early Edition," "One Life to Live," "Evergreen," "Prime of Your Life," "Harry's Law," "Blue Bloods," "A Serious Man," and "The Simpsons."

Members of the entertainment community have begun posting tributes to Fyvush Finkel on social media. BroadwayWorld will add to the list below as they accumulate.
