By:

TREMers in association with Dréim Productions presents The Fastest Clock In The Universe by Philip Ridley, 5-30 November 2013, playing Mon-Sat 7:30pm / Sat & Sun 3:00pm at the The Old Red Lion Theatre.

TREMers is bringing Philip Ridley back to the Old Red Lion with one of his most successful plays The Fastest Clock In The Universe. This production marks the 21st Anniversary of the play.

The Fastest Clock In The Universe is a contemporary classic by hugely popular writer Philip Ridley that delves into the dark underworld of today's youth culture. It centres on Cougar Glass, the narcissistic 30 year old who is once again celebrating his '19th Birthday' in order to seduce an unwitting young schoolboy. We find Cougar half naked under a tanning lamp, surrounded by stuffed birds and feeling increasingly tense.

The Captain and elderly neighbour Cheetah Bee do everything in their power to keep Cougar calm as he gears up for the party; they know all too well what happens when things don't go to plan. Foxtrot Darling arrives dressed to impress, with a boyish charm and a twinkle in his eye - the party has got off to a flying start. Everything is running fairly smoothly until a knocking on the door presents an unexpected guest and the party is thrown into fifth gear. As tensions rise, the game plans shift and Cougar is forced to decide what his next move will be.

The Fastest Clock In The Universe was first performed in 1992 at The Hampstead Theatre starring Jude Law as Foxtrot Darling and Con O'Neil as Cougar Glass. It caused a sensation, winning the Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Newcomer to the stage and the Meyer Whitworth Prize. The play is now regarded as a contemporary classic with this production celebrating its 21st Anniversary.

Philip Ridley is the writer of 'The Pitchfork Disney', 'Shivered', 'Tender Napalm' and The Old Red Lion's 2011 sell-out production of 'Mercury Fur'. His new one woman play Dark Vanilla Jungle premiered at the Soho Theatre London and is currently doing a run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival starring Gemma Whelan. Philip will hold post-show Q&As every Tuesday and a post-show poetry reading of his own work every Wednesday.

TREMers is a cross-genre Production Company creating Theatre, Dance and Poetry events in London. Launched in 2011, TREMers is now managed by Robin Rayner and Tom O'Brien. TREMers is currently producing Debbie Chapman - Queen of Hearts at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and has recently received Arts Council funding to develop new dance piece Oil and Trouble.
