THE QUAD, Starring Tony Winners Anika Noni Rose and Ruben Santiago-Hudson Cancelled By BET After Second Season

According to Variety, BET has cancelled the original series THE QUAD. The second season finale just aired about a week ago. Read more about the news from Variety here.

The series followed ambitious yet troubled Dr. Eva Fletcher (Anika Noni Rose), the newly elected President of fictional Georgia A&M University, a prestigious historically black university (HBCU). She is charged with saving the university from bankruptcy and her twenty-year marriage from crumbling, all while managing a tumultuous relationship with her rebellious older daughter. A diverse group of freshman also promises to keep her hands full.

The weekly 1-hr series show starred Tony Award winners Anika Noni Rose (A RAISIN IN THE SUN, CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, CAROLINE, OR CHANGE) and Ruben Santiago-Hudson (JITNEY, STICK FLY, JELLY'S LAST JAM.), as well as Antwan "Big Boi" Patton Sr. Peyton Alex Smith, Jazz Raycole, Zoe Renee, Jake Allyn, Michelle DeFraites and Sean Blakemore.

The second season took place during Spring semester at Georgia A&M, where the school's survival as an independent, historically Black university hangs in a precarious balance as the driven Dr. Eva Fletcher (Rose) struggles to raise capital for the nearly bankrupt institution. If she fails, the school may be forced to join Georgia's large, public and predominantly White university system in order to keep its doors open. Students protest, allegiances are challenged and friendships are jeopardized as students, faculty and the administration struggle to define their place in the fight while our freshman class also deals with the stress of pledging, hazing, academic probation, post-traumatic stress, hate crime attacks and prescription drug abuse.
