THE DOG DAYS ARE OVER 2.0 Will Come to Centro Cultural de Belém
Performances will run September 19-20, 2026.
Jan Martens’ The Dog Days Are Over 2.0 will be presented Sept. 19 and 20 at Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon, Portugal. Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, and 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, in the venue’s Main Auditorium. The dance work has a running time of approximately 70 minutes and is recommended for audiences ages 6 and older.
Created by Belgian choreographer Jan Martens in 2014 and restaged in 2025 with a new cast, The Dog Days Are Over 2.0 is built around continuous sequences of jumps performed by eight dancers. The work was inspired by photographer Philippe Halsman’s statement that jumping causes a person’s social mask to fall away. The production examines physical exertion, repetition, synchronization and the relationship between art and entertainment.
The Sept. 19 and 20 performances will feature eight dancers selected from Pierre Bastin, Camilla Bundel, Jim Buskens, Zoë Chungong, Simon Lelièvre, Florence Lenon, Elisha Mercelina, Dan Mussett, Pierre Adrien Touret, Zora Westbroek, Maisie Woodford and Paolo Yao. Martens is credited with choreography, with NAOMI GIBSON serving as rehearsal director and providing artistic assistance. Steven Michel and Piet Defrancq provide artistic assistance and coaching, while Renée Copraij is the dramaturg. Jan Fedinger designed the lighting and Sofie Durnez designed the 2025 costumes.
The production is presented by GRIP, with international distribution by A propic. The work has toured internationally for more than 100 performances since its original premiere.
