As a guest on the Late Show with David Letterman, Steve Martin brought along a sizzle reel from his "daytime talk show," "The Steve & Marty Show." The reel featured cameos from Nathan Lane and Martin Short.

In it, Steve Martin asks Lane, "You were in The Addams Family, is that correct?" When Lane confirms Martin comments, "That was a big flop, wasn't it?"

Lane is best known for his roles as Albert in The Birdcage, Max Bialystock in the musical The Producers, Ernie Smuntz in MouseHunt, Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls, Pseudolus in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and his voice work in The Lion King and Stuart Little. In 2008, he was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame.

Short is best known for his comedy work, particularly on the TV programs SCTV and Saturday Night Live. He has also starred in many popular comedic films such as Three Amigos, Innerspace, Pure Luck, Jungle 2 Jungle, Mars Attacks!, Father of the Bride, and Father of the Bride Part 2.

Short starred in the 1993 musical version of the Neil Simon work The Goodbye Girl, receiving a Tony Award nomination and an Outer Critic Circle Award. He then starred in the 1999 Broadway revival of the musical Little Me, which earned him a Tony Award and another Outer Critic Circle Award. Most recently, he starred on Broadway in FAME BECOMES ME.
