Paula Dione Ingram to Make Cabaret Debut at The Metropolitan Room
"Dark Legacy: Bright Lights of Black Broadway" showcases black composers, lyricists and performers of Broadway and their influence on other composers who wrote for the black experience.
Don't miss the chance to hear music of early black composers like Scott Joplin, Bert Williams, Noble Sissle, Eubie Blake, and others who laid a formidable foundation in American music written for Black Broadway. Their songs such as "Nobody", "I'm Just Wild About Harry", "Love Will Find a Way", and "Some of These Days" (to name a few) have become an immortal part of the Great American Songbook.
Experience how their rich and many times dark legacy influenced composers and lyricists who followed in their footsteps, writing for the black experience for both stage and film, up until the present day ~ composers, such as; Gershwin/Heyward, Arlen/Mercer, Flaherty/Ahrens, and more. Ms. Ingram's musical background is comprised of many genres including classical, opera and musical theatre. She made her London West End debut in the title role of CARMEN JONES to rave reviews. Now, Paula Dione Ingram is following her dream of bringing her passion, love and commitment for her Black-American musical ancestors, to the cabaret stage. Come and share in the experience of hearing music from Broadway shows of the past and present.
