A winner of the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, this play by Eboni Booth dives into the mind of a seemingly ordinary middle-aged man named Kenneth, who spent most of his evenings at a local bar with his “friend” Bert. Kenneth loses his job at a local bookstore, forcing him to face a world that he has long avoided. Now, he has to learn how to re-establish his life while dealing with new revelations about himself and embark on an internal and external journey. Finding a renewed sense of purpose and self-discovery along the way, he navigates the challenges of disruption to his normal routine. This play tells a story of new friendships, new beginnings, and finding the courage to overcome personal barriers.
Playhouse on the Square continues its 2025/2026 season with this regional premier, directed by Tony Horne.
The cast includes Kenneth: Marc Gill*, Bert: Trey Oliver, Corrina / Wally's Waiter / Bank Customers: Keia Johnson, Clay / Sam / Others: Dave Landis*, Female Presenting Swing/Understudy: Marissa Gilliam, and Male Presenting Swing/Understudy: Charles Ratcliff.
