Miro Magloire presents his New Chamber Ballet in two world premieres, one to music by J.S. Bach and the second to music by Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, created in collaboration with the Ekmeles vocal ensemble, February 16 & 17 at 8 PM in City Center Studio 5, 130 West 56th Street.
Magloire began his career as a composer before turning to dance, and has been praised for his musical daring and sophistication. For one of his premieres, he has selected both instrumental and vocal music by contemporary composer Kaija Saariaho, including her "Changing Dreams" for soprano and violin, "Nocturne" for piano, and "From the Grammar of Dreams" for soprano and mezzo-soprano and other works for piano and violin, along with Karin Rehnqvist's "Davids Nimm" for three female voices, all sung live by Charlotte Mundy, Mary Elizabeth MacKenzie, and Elisa Sutherland. In this collaboration with the Ekmeles vocal ensemble, the singers will interact on stage with the dancers.
The second premiere (previously excerpted under the title of "Bach") is a suite for four of abstract dances to piano selections by J.S. Bach, including seven preludes and fugues from "The Well Tempered Clavier." The ballet was commissioned by Richard and Leslie Curtis.
