LCT To Present A.R. Gurney's THE GRAND MANNER At The Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater, Lamos To Helm

Lincoln Center Theater (under the direction of Andre Bishop, Artistic Director, and Bernard Gersten, Executive Producer) will present the world premiere of A.. R. Gurney's new play THE GRAND MANNER, directed by Mark Lamos, this spring in the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. Performances will begin Thursday, May 27. Opening night is scheduled for Thursday, June 24.

In 1948, playwright A.R. Gurney, then a young boarding school student, traveled to New York where he attended a performance of Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra, going backstage afterwards to meet the production's star, the great stage actress Katharine Cornell, who was dubbed "The First Lady of the American Stage" by the legendary critic Alexander Woolcott.. A mix of remembrance and imagination, THE GRAND MANNER is a love letter to this fabled actress and a heartfelt look back at the glorious heyday of the Broadway theatre.

Casting and designers for THE GRAND MANNER will be announced at a later date.

Playwright A.R. Gurney's many plays include Far East, Ancestral Voices and Big Bill, all produced by Lincoln Center Theater. Director Mark Lamos returns to Lincoln Center Theater where he directed Gurney's Big Bill as well as such past LCT productions as Shakespeare's Cymbeline and Measure for Measure, Sheridan's The Rivals and Edward Albee's Seascape.

This season Lincoln Center Theater, which is currently celebrating its 25th Year, will also be presenting IN THE NEXT ROOM or the vibrator play, a new play by Sarah Ruhl, directed by Les Waters on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre (149 West 45 Street) beginning Thursday, October 22, while its award-winning production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's SOUTH PACIFIC, directed by Bartlett Sher, continues its record-breaking run at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theater. Preceding THE GRAND MANNER in the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater, will be BROKE-OLOGY, a new play by Nathan Louis Jackson, directed by Thomas Kail, which begins previews this Thusday, September 10, followed by WHEN THE RAIN STOPS FALLING, a new play by Andrew Bovell, directed by David Cromer, beginning Thursday, February 11. In addition, Lincoln Center Theater's new programming initiative LCT3, which is devoted to the work of new playwrights, directors and designers, will present WHAT ONCE WE FELT a new play by Ann Marie Healy, directed by Ken Rus Schmoll, the first of three productions of its second season at The Duke on 42nd Street, beginning Monday, October 26.
