International Spiritual Art Fest 'DIVINAMENTE New York' Begins 4/22

Divinamente New York, the international festival on spirituality, will travel to New York from Rome for the second consecutive year, from April 22nd through April 26th 2010. Divinamente New York is a five-night festival that celebrates spirituality and artistic exploration through a range of events including musical and theatrical performances and round-table discussions.

The theme of this year's Divinamente New York festival is "The Fear of God," a topic that traces the experiences of fear and trepidation as they evolve into comfort, acceptance, and peace. The theme of "The Fear of God" will be addressed in six different theatrical, artistic, and musical productions, in a variety of venues throughout New York City, including the Rubin Museum of Art, the Symphony Space, and the Italian Cultural Institute.

Divinamente New York is the off-shoot of the festival Divinamente Roma, founded in 2008 by Italian actress, director, and cultural icon Pamela Villoresi. Ms. Villoresi has appeared in over one hundred plays, eleven films and twelve teleVision Productions. She has had the pleasure of working with a number of famed actors including Vittorio Gassman and Nino Manfredi, and some of the greatest directors including Marco Bellocchio, the Taviani brothers, Ettore Scola, and Giorgio Strehler.

The Festival opens on Thursday, April 22nd at the Italian Cultural Institute with a round table discussion on the theme "Fear of God," led by Pamela Villoresi with readings taken from "Noah's Arch" by Michele di Martino, Dante's "Inferno" and the Bacchae by Euripides. This talk will be followed by "The Path of the Soul," an original concert featuring Russian duo Anton Dressler on clarinet and Uri Brener on piano, performing the music of a number of different composers in a variety of musical styles.
On Friday, April 23rd at the Symphony Space, Napolitana vocalist Teresa De Sio's secular prayer will invoke Paradise on earth through popular music. The Rubin Museum will host the third night of the festival, on Saturday, April 24th, and will be a stunning setting for the story of the love between Galileo Galilei and his illegitimate daughter, Suor Maria Celeste, played by actress Federica Bern. At St. Mark's Church, on Sunday, April 25th, Vanessa Gravina will perform on stage the courage of Francesca, the Saint of Immigrants.
The closing event, on Monday, April 26th at the Italian Cultural Institute, will feature the warm and captivating voice of Evelina Meghnagi as she relives the exodus of the Sephardic Jews through Africa and Europe to the Roman community.
