Quintet of the Americas (woodwind quintet) will present Mannahatta, a concert, panel discussion and celebration of the United Nations World Environment Day on Saturday, June 5 - 2:00 PM at the Waterfront Museum, 290 Conover Street in Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY. This event, which also includes a panel led by Dr. Eric W. Sanderson, author of Mannahatta: A Natural History of New York City, is the first of the Quintet's Mannahatta concerts, presenting environmentally-themed music throughout the five boroughs of New York City.

Suitable for children age 10 to adults, the program is inspired by the natural history of New York and the evolution of our environment. The program will include a multi-media piece by Christopher Kaufman with video and surround sound evoking the ocean and river when Henry Hudson sailed
into New York Harbor, a progression to the modern age and hope for the future of our environment. Hear the cries of whales and dolphins, bears and birds as your imagination and the music take you to the Hudson River of four hundred years ago. Other pieces on the program will take you on a musical journey from a quiet seashore to the bustle of Ellis Island and the industrial
activity of the 20th century.

The panel, led by Dr. Sanderson, leader of the Wildlife Conservation Society's Mannahatta Project, will also include environmental artist Ken Cro-Ken, composer Christopher Kaufman and the performing musicians.

The Mannahatta Project is reconstructing the ecology of Manhattan when Henry Hudson first sailed by in 1609 and comparing it to what we know of the island today, discovering the environmental foundation of the city. More about it at http://themannahattaproject.org/
