There are some shows where going in blind is the best way to enjoy them, wafting along with the current and learning at the same pace as the characters. Not this one. It truly is a murder mystery, and one of the most interactive shows I’ve had the pleasure of being part of. The renowned winners of the Continental Song Contest, BABA, have been found dead, the cameras are off, and it’s down to you to figure out whodunnit. Race against the rest of the audience as the ridiculous, larger than life suspects encourage you through the twists and turns.
None of the characters have much more than a caricature’s worth of depth, but their chirpy optimism and clipboards full of clues help you to navigate the challenge. It’s a good job, too, because I wasn’t the only one unprepared to wrack my brains for codes, and we nearly let the killer slip through our fingers.
Think of it as a pub quiz. Bring your most puzzle-minded friends, make some new ones, lean into the absurd joy of breaking the pun-o-meter (I got to 27 before I lost count). It might be corny but it’s cleverly chaotic and worth letting go of your embarrassment. Don’t forget your reading glasses, laugh at yourselves as well as them, and enjoy being swept up in the theatricality.
