American composer Debra Kaye, will celebrate the premiere of Dance to Unknowing - a Klezmer Prelude performed by Olga Terlitsky and Mioi Takeda, violins, David Taylor, bass trombone, Matt Herskowitz, piano, Laurence Goldman, bass, and Cesare Papetti on drums. The Composers Concordance contemporary music concert "All About Purim" will feature new compositions inspired by this festive Jewish holiday and will take place on March 23 at 7:30pm at the Goddard Riverside - Bernie Wohl Center located at 647 Columbus Avenue (between 91st and 92nd Street) in Manhattan. Hamentaschen, the traditional, triangular pastry of Purim, will be served. A donation of $12 is suggested.

Dance to Unknowing takes its inspiration from the humorous Purim Parade, Adloyada (to revel) "until one no longer knows." Scored for sextet, the piece can be adapted for a variety of ensembles, and performed as a stand-alone piece or an introduction to other klezmer tunes. Other composers on the program include Dan Cooper, Laurence Goldman, Matt Herskowitz, Alon Nechushtan, Gene Pritsker, Anton Rovner, David Rozenblatt, and David Taylor. The concert will also include performances by violinist Lara St. John and clarinetist Igor Begelman. The ensemble will be conducted by Thomas Carlo Bo.

Debra Kaye is hailed as "a unique voice in American music," for her "transcendent, witty, colorful and profound" works blending her deep classical roots with a wide range of influences including jazz, world music, folk, experimental improvisation, world events and sounds of daily life. With a catalogue of close to 40 chamber and orchestral music works, art songs, choral and theatrical compositions, her work has been recognized with multiple ASCAP Plus Awards for her "creative contributions to American music." Her debut CD, And So It Begins, (Ravello), produced by Grammy winner Judith Sherman, was included on Ted Gioia's list of top 100 CD's and recognized as "an album that will surely stand the test of time". Last fall, German publisher Bellmann Musik included her solo harpsichord composition Buscando, commissioned by Arthur Haas of Yale University, in The Contemporary Harpsichordist. Other season highlights include the premiere of three additional compositions, a choral work, Hey Yud Yud - Parallel Universes, and the Andante Appassionato movement from her String Quartet No. 1. Ikarus--Duo for Binya, for violin and viola, commissioned by the Community Music Center, will premiere on May 1 in Portland, Oregon, and will celebrate its New York premiere on May 9. Currently Kaye is at work on a commission from the Portland Youth Philharmonic that will premiere in the 2016-17 season.
