BWW JR: Private Benefit Performance of MATILDA
A Special Benefit Performance of Matilda to Benefit Hebrew Charter School Center
Dual Language Immersion Education Meets Broadway!
Two things we love here at BroadwayWorld Jr.: Broadway shows for families and the development of terrific new public schools in New York City. Here's your opportunity to be a part of both.
The Hebrew Charter School Center (HCSC) is inviting fans of great family theater to a special benefit performance of Matilda on Sunday April 21st at 3:00 pm.All proceeds of the benefit will go to HCSC, which is working to develop high quality Hebrew language charter schools in the New York area and across the country. In addition to the two schools already in operation in Brooklyn and East Brunswick, N.J., three new schools in the HCSC network are set to open this fall in Harlem, Washington, and San Diego. The sixth school in the HCSC network will open in Los Angeles in 2014."We are excited to have such a unique opportunity to expand our circle of support and grow our network of great Hebrew charter schools," HCSC Chairwoman Sara Berman said. "This is one of the hottest tickets in New York, and we welcome old friends and new ones to take advantage of this chance to see this wonderful musical and learn more about our cause." The Hebrew Charter School Center (HCSC) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2009. The Center's mission is to promote the development and sustainability of the Hebrew charter school movement by supporting a network of excellent schools that serve diverse populations of students, foster strong inter-personal relationships, advance overall academic and social/emotional well-being, and promote high levels of Hebrew language proficiency and understanding of the culture and history of Israel and its immigrant communities. The new HCSC school will open in Harlem this fall with 156 seats available for students entering Kindergarten and First grade. Admission is by lottery with preference given to children who live in Community School District 3 (Harlem and the Upper West Side). The school plans to expand over the next five years to serve 446 students in Kindergarten through fifth grade.Matilda is set to officially open April 11. The New York Times called the Royal Shakespeare Company production of Roald Dahl's classic "one of the most anticipated shows of the Broadway season." Tickets for the 3:00 matinee show are now available on the HCSC website: http://www.hebrewcharters.org/matilda.phpFollow me on Twitter! @BroadwayWorldJr

BroadwayWorld is looking for a theatre-loving kid (age 6-11), who lives in the New York City area, and has lots of things to say about Broadway. If you know a kid with a lot of personality, who'd be perfect for the job, submit a 1-5 minute video of them talking about something having to do with theatre- a recent production they saw, a favorite show, cast album, film adaptation, or any Broadway-related topic that interests them.
