Alessandra Belloni and I Giullari di Piazza to Return to St. John the Divine with TARANTATA, 10/18

During Italian Heritage & Culture Month, Alessandra Belloni and I Giullari di Piazza will return to St. John the Divine, where they are artists-in-residence, for a performance of their dazzling "Tarantata," a feast of Southern Italian music, dance, and ancient legend in which a "Tarantata" (one who has been bitten by a tarantula) seeks a cure.

On her journey to the shaman, she encounters the procession of the Black Madonna, led in traditional fashion by stiltwalker Mark Mindek as the figure of Death; as well as healing chants and drumming from Southern Italy and Brazil; and magic rituals for the cure. As with all of I Giullari's productions, the evening ends with a joyous tarantella in which audience members can join the dancers on stage.

The cast includes Alessandra Belloni - lead vocals, tambourines, frame drums, ritual dance, Joe Deninzon - electric and acoustic violin, Wilson Montuori - electric and acoustic guitar, Susan Eberenz - flute, piccolo, recorders, Peter Abazia - drum set, percussion, Giuseppe de Falco - Neapolitan singer, Mark Mindek - stilt dancer, Dancers: Catarina Rago, Peter de Geronimo, Francesca Silvano, Lindsay Poulis, Jillian Alighieri.
