AISHA Comes To The Old Red Lion Theatre and Tristan Bates London

Devastation and heartache ensue in AISHA; a tale of a young girl forced into marriage as a result of her family falling upon hard times. Spurred on by outdated cultural and religious traditions, 17-year-old Aisha must adjust to her new life as a housewife to an alcoholic husband, who is many years her senior. She is denied access to the outside world, and forced to succumb to her new husband's every sexual whim and violent desire. This tragic tale rings true for hundreds of millions of young girls all over the globe who are forced into child marriage; statistically there are over 650 million women worldwide who were forced into marriage as children and 1 in 5 girls across the world are married before the age of 18. Written by AJ, he hopes that the play 'express[es] the harrowing experiences of child marriage victims without filtering the truth that resides within the accounts'.

AISHA, the one-woman play from AILIA, a diversity led organisation which aims to 'empower the disempowered' with their art, now in its second run will be showcased in numerous London theatres from this December; starting with the Old Red Lion Theatre on 3rd December 2018, where it will stay until the 8th December 2018, and completing its run at the Tristan Bates Theatre from 4th -5th January 2019.

BBC's Les Misérables' Alex Jarett plays Aisha.
