City of Appleton Parking Fee Takes Effect for Performances at the Fox Cities

By: Feb. 08, 2011

Starting March 1, the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center will no longer provide free parking in the City of Appleton's Washington Street Ramp for Center-presented events. There will be a $2 cash only fee for entry into the downtown ramp. The Fox Cities P.A.C. will continue to pay for parking through the run of WICKED January 26 - February 20 at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center.

Since opening in 2002, the Fox Cities P.A.C. has provided free parking in the Washington Street Ramp for patrons starting one hour prior to most Center performances. Due to the City of Appleton's recent parking fee increase from $1 to $2 per car, the Center regrets that after March 1 it will no longer be able to continue paying for event parking in the Washington Street Ramp.

Maria Van Laanen, executive vice president of the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center, urges ticket holders to allow extra time if they plan to park in a downtown ramp. "This change will take some adjustment, but we are committed to working with the City of Appleton to ensure the smoothest possible visitor experience as they enter and exit the downtown ramps." Van Laanen noted that plans are in place for City of Appleton parking attendants to direct and assist drivers who wish to park in the Washington Street Ramp for several performances after the change takes effect March 1.

Appleton's Mayor Tim Hanna, who also serves on the board of directors at the Fox Cities Performing Center, encourages ticket holders to view this parking change as a reason to spend more time enjoying the downtown atmosphere. "There is so much to do in Appleton. Now is as good a time as any to explore all that the downtown area has to offer."

The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center will be sending their Season Ticket Holders and Annual Partners
e-mail notification of the parking rate enforcement in March and has already updated parking information on its website and ticket materials. Questions and concerns about parking in downtown Appleton for a Fox Cities P.A.C. performance may be directed to the Center's ticket office at (920) 730-3760 or sent to tickets@foxcitiespac.com. Comments about the City of Appleton's parking rate increase may be directed to Paula Vandehey, director of public works at paula.vandehey@appleton.org.
