The inaugural WATU Adelaide Youth Choir Festival, comprising more than 120 choristers from South Australia and interstate aged between twelve and nineteen years, will be held from 7-10 October 2015.
Presented by Young Adelaide Voices, and Artistic Director Christie Anderson, the WATU Adelaide Youth Choir Festival features three public concerts. The first will be held at Wesley Uniting Church in Kent Town on Thursday 8 October, the second, a lunch-hour concert at Elder Hall on Friday 9 October, followed by a gala evening performance at St Peter's Cathedral on Saturday 10 October. The choristers from around South Australia and Canberra will spend three days intensively singing and learning a series of massed choir works, including two pieces especially composed for the festival by Guest Composer and clinician Stephen Leek and Festival Patron Carl Crossin OAM. Director Christie Anderson said: "The seed of WATU formed in 2012 after Young Adelaide Voices returned from a four week tour to the USA where, in addition to concerts in Fairfield, Washington and Cincinnati, they won all three youth choir categories in the 9th International Golden Gate Youth Choir Festival in San Francisco. It was there the choir met Stephen Leek, who was one of the adjudicators.
