Theatre Guild Students Present MACBETH OR WHEN SHALL WE 3 MEET AGAIN?

By:

Following the success of The Motherf**ker with the Gun in July 2018, The Theatre Guild will present a second student production in this 80th anniversary year, featuring another two of Adelaide's fine young actors supported by an enthusiastic and committed team of students backstage and front of house.

In this bold one-act adaptation, Shakespeare's classic is reimagined as a domestic drama with a couple, alone in a modern-day bedroom. Left with nothing but themselves - their laughter, their love, their loneliness - they confront the pain of the past and the futility of any future.

But how do they deal with loss as their lives spiral out of control?

Grieving makes way for tragedy as they struggle to hold onto a normal life.

Director and writer James Watson is currently studying for a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Creative Writing) at Flinders University. He has been writing plays and been involved in theatre since high school where he was the Drama Captain in his senior year. In 2016 James was the winner of the State Theatre Company of South Australia Young Playwrights' Award and also wrote the double bill Domestic Autumn and Angry Love for The Theatre Guild. In 2017 he wrote and directed Empty Vanity for the Adelaide Fringe.

James said "I wanted to reinterpret the line 'When shall we three meet again' and my mantra was 'versus Shakespeare'. What could I do that was different yet recognisable enough to maintain this tale of tragedy? Minimalist and fragmented, this production retaliates against traditional productions of Shakespeare."
