Following the success of The Jew of Malta last week, the Theatre Guild continues its 2017 season with a student production of Medea, opening on Thursday 6 April.

Abandoned by her husband and exiled from her family and home, it seems everyone is intent on destroying Medea's life. Will she simply submit to these assaults on her life and her decency? Or will she take matters into her own hands?

Seneca's Medea offers a dark, haunting glimpse of dysfunctional family relationships, the limits of personal morality and the chilling consequences of anger.

Is Medea just a woman scorned? Or does she have every right to seek revenge on the oppressive forces that seek to destroy her world?

Director and translator Alex Antoniou graduated from the University of Adelaide with First Class Hons. in Classics. Passionate about Roman drama, religion and society, he is currently completing his M. Phil in Roman History.

Alex said "Medea not only offers a young female actor the chance to play one of the most iconic roles in dramatic history, but it also proves that the Classics are not bygone relics of the distant past, but fresh, terrifying and, in this case, bloody stories that will always be relevant."

Cast: Melanie Archer, Robert Baulderstone, Annabel Bramley, Alexandra Burgess, Zachary Carter, Ryan Casey, Divya Daryanani, Eilish Devlin, Apoorv Jaiswal, Abby Oakey & Michelle Roylance.

"What joy! Tearing off my brother's head, what joy, slicing his limbs and robbing my father of his sacred spoils"
