SATURDAY NIGHT SOIREE Kicks Off Tonight at La Boheme

Mix a sultry songstress with a charismatic circus performer, a bejewelled Burlesque beauty and a pianist with panache and what do you get? The brand new Saturday Night Soirée - a heady cabaret cocktail of music, burlesque, comedy, passion and pathos set to kick off summer in Adelaide by turning up the mercury at La Bohème from tonight, December 14.

Saturday Night Soirée's all-South Australian ensemble cast will wrap its classy cloak around Adelaide's premier cocktail & cabaret bar on the second Saturday of every month, with a special extra show on New Year's Eve (Tuesday, Dec 31).

Co-created by Sidonie Henbest, the celebrated chanteuse of cabaret, and her long-time collaborator Matthew Carey - one of Australia's most sought after pianists and musical directors - Saturday Night Soirée teams this incomparable duo with Ninian Donald - an aficionado of multiple art forms including puppetry, circus and dance - and the spell-binding Miss Sapphire Snow - one of SA's most tantalising and talented Burlesque artists.

Together this formidable foursome will present a sophisticated (and saucy!) new show, in an atmosphere that's more 'party' than pure performance. Yes, you'll still get all the finest features of the classic cabaret experience: music, song, dance and more than a measure of mayhem - but by re-imagining the context of cabaret, the creators of Saturday Night Soirée hope to entice new fans to this flourishing art form.

"Matthew and I wanted to develop a high-end cabaret experience where it felt like you were at a party with your friends and not simply spectators at a show - so we made up our own set of rules around presentation," says Sidonie Henbest.

Forget the format of single acts performing on a stage one after the other, Saturday Night Soirée has these four extraordinary artists working closely together as an ensemble - supporting and complementing each other's individual performances, delivering as duos or a group and using their many artistic talents to put their own spin on a few cabaret classics. Saturday Night Soirée also steps off the stage at La Bohème and into all corners of the room.

"While I'm performing a number with Matthew, you might find yourself being serenaded at your table at the back by one of Ninian's puppets or see the stunning Miss Sapphire Snow appear suddenly under a spotlight in a dark corner ready to captivate with a cheeky Burlesque performance!," says Sidonie. "The format lets us get closer to our gorgeous audience and bring them into the show in a way that's both fun and respectful."

To keep the party ticking along, each month the Saturday Night Soirée program will be spiked with a few little surprises to keep audiences on their toes - and coming back for more! "Basically, you can expect the unexpected at Saturday Night Soirée. Each show will be a little different - but always entertaining!" says Sidonie.

Completing the creative ensemble behind Saturday Night Soirée is Brent Liederitz, a national award-winning photographer and graphic designer whose iconic imagery sets the tone for the show's overall styling.
