Kegelstatt musicians Steph Wake-Dyster, clarinet; Esther Toh, double bass; Renae Stavely, oboe; and Anna Webb, viola, together with Alexandra Castle, flute and Emma Perkins, violin, will guide the audience through "Dance" with live spoken interludes, emphasizing the connection and dialogue between the performers, the music and the audience at 2.30pm next Sunday 9 July.

Program for "Dance": Erwin Schulhoff - Concertino for flute, viola and double bass; Alberto Ginastera - Duo for flute and oboe Op.13;Elliott Carter - "Esprit Rude/Esprit Doux" for clarinet and flute and Sergei Prokofiev - Quintet Op.39 for oboe, clarinet, violin, viola and double bass

Anna Webb, violist and ensemble spokesperson, explains why the theme of "Song and Dance" was chosen for Kegelstatt Ensemble's two Adelaide concerts.

"Song and Dance" is a theme which could really apply to any conceivable program, as all music really is both song and dance!

"The main featured work in "Dance", and the inspiration for the program, is the Prokofiev quintet, with the unusual instrumentation of violin, viola, clarinet, oboe and double bass. This work was actually first commissioned for a ballet.

"The inclusion of double bass, and the exclusion of cello, led us to consider the Schulhoff trio for flute, viola and double bass, where in the 2nd and 4th movements, piccolo replaces flute and there is an unmistakable folk dance element, guaranteed to induce toe-tapping!

"The smaller partnerships in the lineup (flute and clarinet, oboe and flute) provide shorter interludes which can be visualised as sometimes romantic slow dances, sometimes scampering chases."

The series continues with "Song" 2.30pm for 3pm Sunday 19 November, Carclew House Ballroom, Cnr Jeffcott St and Montefiore Hill, North Adelaide. Ticket prices: Adult $30, Concession $22, Student $15 : Trybooking and at door
