Concerts at Kent Town 2017 Season Opens Next Month

Now in its tenth year the popular community Concerts at Kent Town continues to go from strength to strength as it opens the doors of the historic Wesley Church, Kent Town for another season of welcoming monthly Wednesday afternoon concerts. And, yes admission price is still $10 which includes a generous afternoon tea.

This year Concerts at Kent Town will take place monthly from July to November.

The season opens on 19 July at 2 pm with a recital by soprano Cassandra Humble, a Young Artist with State Opera, accompanied by Sachiko Hidaka on the piano. Cassandra's program will include works by Handel, Schumann and Brahms.

Adelaide soprano Cassandra Humble has performed for the State Opera of South Australia, the award-winning Adelaide Chamber Singers and the internationally renowned Young Adelaide Voices. Recently she performed as a soloist and ensemble member in Orpheus Underground for Various People Inc. 2017 has seen her continue her role as a Young Artist with State Opera, participating for a master class with Miriam Gordon-Stewart, as ensemble for Mascagni's and Leoncavallo's double bill Cavalleria Rusticana/I Pagliacci for State Opera and Vocal Coaching with Young Adelaide Voices. Cassandra was a finalist in the 2016 Arnold Matters Vocal Scholarship and the 2015 Dawn Wallace State Opera Aria competition. Cassandra holds a Bachelor of Arts and International Studies (Hons) and a Diploma of Instrumental Music - Classical Voice from University of Adelaide.

Accompanying Cassandra is Sachiko Hidaka an Adelaide-based accompanist and repetiteur. She currently works with various instrumentalists and singers and is an accompanist for Cantamus Choir and the Brass repertoire classes at the Elder Conservatorium.

Sachiko has been a repetiteur for several opera productions in recent years including, Eugene Onegin (Co-Opera), The Marriage of Figaro and La Clemenza di Tito (Co-Opera intermezzo series in 2015 and 2016), and The Mikado (Co-Opera and G&S) and Dido and Aeneas (Mopoke Theatre Productions).

Completing the program will be music played on the magnificent JE Dodd organ which continues to be a feature of the concerts. This opening concert recital will be presented by Graham Bell resident organist of Wesley Church Kent Town

Graham Bell is employed as a professional botanist. Music has always been his "other life", having sung in choirs since childhood and been drawn to the pipe organ from around that time.

He was appointed Organist and Choirmaster at Wesley Uniting Church in January 2011. As an organ soloist, Graham has been involved in many concerts, especially for the Organ Music Society of Adelaide, for which his first appearance was in 1975.

Graham's program for this opening concert will include works by Bach, Elgar, Franck, Pierné and Whitlock.

Concerts at Kent Town continue until November. Dates are as follows:
