Cirque Nocturne Brings 1940's Glamour to the Fringe Image

Cirque Nocturne is set you get your Fringe nights sizzling with a sensational mix of acrobatic circus acts, mystery and glamour, performed in the style of a 1940's black and white Noir film. Founded in 2016 and debuting their first show at the 2016 Adelaide Cabaret Fringe, this ambitious company have grown throughout 2017, and quickly gained a reputation for presenting shows with a exciting blend of glamour, fantasy and skill. Their shows to date have included ambitious works in Victoria Square, exploring cross-disciplinary performance and mounting their first interstate tour, to the Melbourne Fringe Festival.

Cirque Nocturne's production for the Fringe Festival is a seductive show inspired by the classic Noir films of the 1940's. The show follows the fortunes of a gritty Private Investigator as he attempts to solve a murder, navigating his way through a cast of sensuous femme fatales, seedy swindlers and corrupt cops. Throughout the prevailing dark and moody atmosphere, every character he meets has a dazzling circus skill to display whilst he struggles to solve the crime, find love, and most importantly, get paid. Producer and performer Kate Lawrence says of her inspiration for the show, "I have always loved the Noir style of films, particularly from the 40's. I enjoy the gritty realism of the urban settings that are portrayed in these films, contrasted by the sublime glamour of characters like femme fatales, and the recognition that the 'good guys' have flaws, just like the rest of us. I think that there always seems to be a romance inherent in this style of black and white films."

Amongst a soundtrack of period and contemporary jazz, the show encapsulates the ambience of vice, corruption and glamour that the Noir genre of films is best known for. With its dark and moody atmosphere, the show features acts by a diverse assortment of circus performers, including jugglers, acrobats, fire spinners and aerialists.
