Review: UNDER THE COVERS VOLUME 3: UNPLUGGED – ADELAIDE FRINGE 2019 at Empyrean, Gluttony Reviewed by Corinna Di Niro, Friday 1st March 2019.

Under the Covers Volume 3: Unplugged, is the third incarnation for local circus school, Zigzag Circus. The school, for adults, has been running for over ten years now, offering a wide range of circus skills to the average enthusiast. It's lovely to see this adult focussed school offer a forum for their students to present their works in development.

Set in the outdoor Empyrean theatre at Gluttony, Under The Covers Volume 3: Unplugged, offers up a late night pyjama party to the tunes of popular cover songs. The show starts out quite melancholic. It is dark, there are people entering the stage with flowers, the mood resembles a funeral, and on the bed lays a woman who then performs a sombre silk routine.

This is then interspersed by a 'devil' character that performs a fresh, high-energy dance routine. This quick change of emotions, as each performer switches the pace and shows-off their skill set, carries throughout. It is certainly a show that keeps you guessing, allows you to ask questions and takes you on an interesting ride.
