Adelaide Central Market: Stories, People & Recipes Now Available For Purchase

By:

The Adelaide Central Market is thrilled to announce the launch of its first-ever hardcover book, now available for purchase in time for its150th anniversary celebrations in 2019.

Written by Katie Spain and Fiona Roberts, Adelaide Central Market Stories, People & Recipes shares stories about the iconic heritage location.

Within its pages are the memories of former traders and the familiar faces who make the Adelaide Central Market the lively place it is today.

Readers will also be treated to 136 delicious seasonal recipes from the Market's passionate stallholders - including Lucia's iconic minestrone, Comida's famous paella and Asian Gourmet's laksa (regularly claimed as Adelaide's best).

The recipes include family favourites from local and regional producers, along with Market-inspired offerings from SA's favourite chefs Maggie Beer, Adam Liaw and Simon Bryant, just to name a few.

Each recipe also contains personal anecdotes, tips and tricks while also celebrating the Market's eclectic, multicultural community and providing inspiration, knowledge and education around seasonal produce.

"Each recipe shares personal anecdotes, tips and tricks while also celebrating the Market's eclectic, multicultural community," said SA chef Simon Bryant.

"We've also taken the opportunity to provide inspiration, knowledge and education around the importance of seasonal produce and how to use more of this every day."

Adelaide Central Market Authority Chair Dr Nick Begakis said only a limited number of copies would be available of the book, which features nearly 500 pages of fabulous stories, recipes and images.

"The Adelaide Central Market has been feeding our city, body and soul, for nearly 150 years," Dr Begakis said.

"This book brilliantly tells the Market's story from humble beginnings to a world-renowned cultural and culinary cornucopia.

"It appeals to a wide market, both young and old, and gives people a piece of the Market to take home and enjoy with friends and family."

Adelaide Central Market Stories, People & Recipes will be officially launched Wednesday 5 December 2018 with an in-market celebration, to be attended by the many people whose hard work and commitment made this book come to life, including market traders, local growers, and well-known South Australian chefs.

Copies of Adelaide Central Market Stories, People & Recipes are now available to the public from Wednesday 5 December 2018 and can be purchased from the Market office or online at adelaidecentralmarket.com.au. It will be in bookstores this week.
