'A Christmas Carol' Returns to Westport Playhouse

By:

Westport Country Playhouse has announced that a song-filled adaptation of Charles Dickens' holiday classic A Christmas Carol will be staged for the second year in a row, November 23 through December 29.  The dynamic, annual family event for ages six and up is adapted and directed by Tazewell Thompson, Playhouse artistic director.

"A Christmas Carol brings to the stage miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, the curmudgeon everyone loves to hate, the Spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future, the festive Fezziwigs, and the darling Cratchit family with the ever-hopeful Tiny Tim.  Part ghost story and part celebration, A Christmas Carol includes over 20 holiday songs with dancing to propel this memorable tale of human transformation.  The scenic design will represent how the stage of the Playhouse may have looked if the barn-like theatre had existed in the mid-1800s.  This year's costumes will be in bright, holiday colors," explain press notes.

New this year will be the "Dickensian Grand Tea" special holiday package in cooperation with Zest Café and Restaurant, Westport.  The package includes a ticket to a Playhouse performance of A Christmas Carol, Saturdays and Sundays, November 24 – December 29, 1PM or 5:30PM, and grand tea at Zest, featuring gourmet teas, tea sandwiches, scones and pastries.  For information on this holiday treat, call (203) 227-5137, x 120.

The cast includes many returning actors from last year's Westport Country Playhouse production: Wynn Harmon as Scrooge, Howard Kaye as Marley, Forrest McClendon as Ghost of Christmas Past, Christianne Tisdale as Christmas Present and Mrs. Fezziwig, Steven Stein-Grainger as Fezziwig, Nick Cordileone as Bob Cratchit and Mary Jo Mecca as Mrs. Moggs.

New to this year's production are Zachary James as Christmas Future, Marcy McGuigan as Mrs. Cratchit, Bryant Martin as Young Scrooge, Nicholas Galbraith as Fred, Rebecca Strimaitis as Belle and Alice, Will Ray as Topper, Carey Brown as Annabella, and Jonathan C. Kaplan as Brother.

Performance times for A Christmas Carol are selected Wednesdays at 7PM; selected Thursdays at 2PM & 7PM; Fridays at 7PM; Saturdays and Sundays at 1PM & 5:30PM; and Christmas Eve at 11AM. Ticket prices: $25, $35, $48. Groups of 10 or more save up to 30% off the regular ticket price.  For group sales information call (203) 227-5137, x120.
